and the founding charter of the Parrot Tree Care Takers Association.
In June 2022 we travelled to Uganda to see free-living African Grey Parrots. There we met Nick Byaba, a young wildlife guide and environmental activist, who took us to see the shy birds. In SEEDS, we join him in documenting the emergence of a local movement, the Parrot Tree Caretakers Association, a collective of conservationists, farmers and trees. The PTCA protects existing trees (mainly oil palms, the preferred food source of grey parrots) and plants new indigenous trees to provide shelter and food for endangered grey parrots and other wildlife. In 90 years – Nick says – his great-grandchildren shall still be able to observe the culture and ways of life of the grey parrots, on the edge of their community.
