Catalogue d’oiseaux
The “Catalogue d’oiseaux” is based on books that CMUK ‘read’ and reinterpreted together. The resulting objects are a reference to the glass cylinders in which bird dioramas were often presented in museums – specimens of birds mounted ‘lifelike’ on branches or in nests. The title “Catalogue d’oiseaux” is also a homage to the thirteen-part piano cycle of the same name by Olivier Messiaen (1958). With his composition, Messiaen created a monument to the birds native to various regions of France. While the human members of the collective are primarily interested in the content of the books, the birds are presumably rather interested in the different haptic, acoustic and visual qualities of paper, binding cloth and cardboard.
